Dental Implants in Grand Junction

Dental implants work much more naturally than dentures. Rather than serving as a removeable tooth substitute, a dental implant is a permanent replacement tooth root (post) that's inserted directly into a patient's jawbone. Once the root has fused into the one, it provides a strong foundation upon which an artificial tooth that looks just like the surrounding regular teeth can be attached.

There are three parts to a dental implant:

1. Implant: A small titanium root, or post, that's surgically placed in the jawbone.

2. Abutment: The connecting piece between the post and restoration.

3. Restoration: A bridge, crown, or denture that fits securely on top of the implant.

As the most common type of implant used today, endosteal implants are surgically inserted directly into the jawbone. Subperiosteal implants are extremely rare and serve as a better option for patients who do not have enough natural jawbone to support endosteal implants.

Once in place, a dental implant looks, feels, and functions just like a real tooth. Other advantages of

dental implants include ease of brushing and flossing, the fact they don't slip around and interfere with speaking and eating like dentures do, and exceptional comfort.

There are also different types of dental implants, including single-tooth dental implants, full mouth dental implants, mini dental implants, and all-on-4 dental implants.

What To Expect During A Dental Implant Procedure

If you are a candidate for a dental implant procedure, you can expect:

1. Using 3D imaging of your mouth, Dr. Atwood will prepare a computer simulation of the treatment, allowing him to identify where the implants will be placed for optimal support.

2. The next step will involve surgery to place the implants and may also include additional procedures like a tooth extraction and bone shaping. At that time, the implants are

capped with abutments and temporary teeth are attached until the implants have had a chance to fuse with the jawbone, a process called osseointegration.

3. During a 6-12 week healing process, you will be asked to avoid hard or chewy foods that could cause damage.

4. The temporary teeth will be removed approximately three months after placement once the process of osseointegration is finished. Once the temporaries are removed, permanent replacement teeth will be attached.

5. Although recovery times vary depending on the type and number of implants you received, your recovery should be relatively short with minimal discomfort.

What Do Dental Implants Cost?

Although dental implants tend to cost slightly more upfront than other tooth replacement treatments, they are a very affordable alternative for reasons like aesthetics, comfort, durability, longevity, and higher self-esteem.

If you are planning a trip to Mexico to get your implants simply because it could save you a few bucks, you may want to reconsider. In Mexico, many dentists take short courses (as short as one weekend!) and start advertising that they do dental implants. There are no regulations stating dental providers are required to have a minimum level of training or experience. Additionally, those who commit mistakes while placing dental implants in Mexico are not usually sanctioned. Your safety and health is a priority at Atwood Advanced Dentistry.

The cost of dental implants can vary depending on several factors, such as the number of implants needed and the complexity of the case. Dr. Atwood and his team can create a plan that works best for you.

An Implant Isn’t Better Because It’s Faster — It’s Better When It’s Done With Precision.

We live in a world that loves speed. Same-day shipping. Same-day groceries. Same-day everything. So when people hear “same-day implants” or “a brand-new smile in one appointment,” it’s natural to feel curious… and even hopeful. But here’s something most people don’t realize:

Your smile is not something that should be rushed.

Your ability to chew comfortably…
Your long-term bone health…
Your bite…
Your confidence…
Your comfort…

These aren’t things that can be safely squeezed into a single hurry-through appointment.

Dental implants are more like building a home:
You wouldn’t put the roof on before you poured the foundation.

And the foundation really matters.

Why Precision Matters Far More Than Speed

Most patients don’t see the planning that goes into restorative work, but that planning is where the true expertise lives.

Here are the parts that can’t — and shouldn’t — be rushed:

bone structure for dental implants in Grand Junction

A Deep Look at your Bone Structure

Bone is living tissue. It’s constantly changing. And every person’s bone is different. When we slow down and evaluate the bone fully, we can decide:

-where the implant will be most stable

-whether bone grafting might help

-how to protect the nerves and sinus cavity

-how to place the implant for long-term strength

Skipping this step is like guessing.
And your smile should never depend on guesswork.

Planning Your Bite So Everything Works Together

Your bite is the engine of your mouth.
If one part is off, the whole system can feel off — sometimes painfully so.

A rushed implant may be placed without fully understanding how you chew, where your bite naturally lands, and how your jaw moves.

A planned implant, however, fits into your bite like it has always belonged there.

This means more comfort now — and fewer problems later.

Placing The Implant With The Accuracy Your Comfort Depends On

Implant placement isn’t about how quickly it’s done — it’s about the exactness of each movement.

A fraction of a millimeter matters.
A small angle matters.
The depth matters.
The tilt matters.

This isn’t perfectionism; it’s the craft.
It’s what makes the difference between an implant that lasts… and one that doesn’t.

Creating A Tooth That Looks And Feels Natural

A same-day restoration may look “fine” today, but will it blend with your natural smile next year?
Will it still feel right in five years?
Will it age well with your face?

A natural smile is carefully crafted — in shape, shade, and proportion — so it feels like you.

That simply can’t be done in a hurry.

Protecting Your Smile For The Long Term

Fast dentistry focuses on the moment.
Precision-based dentistry focuses on the future.

The goal isn’t to get you in and out quickly.
The goal is to give you a smile you can confidently live with for decades.

When implants are done with careful planning and expert craftsmanship, you get:

more stability

more comfort

more natural appearance

less risk of future issues

better chewing ability

long-lasting results you can trust

Here’s the truth:

A rushed implant might work for a day.
But a well-planned, precisely crafted implant works for a lifetime.

Your comfort, your confidence, and your health deserve the approach that values accuracy, not shortcuts.

Speed might sell… but precision protects your smile.

Top 5 Benefits of Dental Implants Over Dentures

  • Permanent & Secure Fit: Unlike removable dentures, dental implants are surgically anchored into your jawbone. This gives them unmatched stability—you can laugh, speak, and eat without fear of them slipping or shifting. Imagine biting into an apple or steak without worry!

  • Preserve Your Jawbone & Facial Structure: When teeth are missing, your jawbone begins to deteriorate over time. Dentures rest on top of the gums and do nothing to prevent bone loss. Dental implants, on the other hand, stimulate the jawbone just like natural tooth roots—helping preserve your facial structure and avoid the sunken look often associated with missing teeth.

  • Comfort & Confidence—No Adhesives or Awkward Moments: Dentures can cause sore spots, require messy adhesives, and sometimes shift while speaking. With implants, there’s no need to take anything in or out of your mouth—just brush and floss like natural teeth. You’ll regain full confidence in everyday activities, from conversations to photos.

  • Eat the Foods You Love Again: Many denture wearers struggle to chew certain foods—especially crunchy, chewy, or tough options. Implants restore 90–100% of your chewing ability, allowing you to enjoy your favorite meals without compromise. Whether you’re enjoying local Grand Junction fare or hiking with a protein-packed snack, implants fit right in with an active Colorado lifestyle.

  • Long-Term Value: While dentures may seem more affordable upfront, they often need replacement every 5–10 years, plus relining and maintenance. Dental implants are designed to last decades—sometimes even a lifetime with proper care. At Atwood Advanced Dentistry, we also offer financing through Proceed Finance to make implants accessible and manageable.
